Dedication of the Senator Christine Kehoe Trail & Wetland Buffer, Saturday, Sept. 7
I took a break from the campaign trail on Saturday to join many friends, colleagues, 22nd DAA board members, and members of the public at the San Dieguito Lagoon adjacent to Jimmy Durante Blvd. Our purpose: to honor a true trailblazer, Sen. Christine Kehoe, by dedicating a portion of the Coast to Crest Trail and an environmentally important wetland buffer in her name. The Senator Christine Kehoe Trail and Wetland Buffer is part of a $5 million wetland restoration project that converted a former fairgrounds parking lot into 9.51 acres of coastal salt marsh and 1.67 acres of upland habitat. The esteem that Chris Kehoe earned during her public service from 1993-2012 (San Diego City Council; State Assembly; State Senate) was evident from her many colleagues who gathered for this dedication, including Toni Atkins, President pro Tempore of the California Senate; Todd Gloria, State Assemblymember; San Diego City Councilmember Barbra Bry; two past Del Mar mayors (Don Mosier, Lee Haydu); Solana Beach councilmember Lesa Heebner; and many others. I felt honored to be there as the current Del Mar mayor, and as someone who is in awe of what Chris Kehoe has accomplished for us, as a strong environmentalist and defender of open space," ~Dwight

Neighborhood wine & cheese receptions

A big thanks to Scott MacDonald for hosting the campaign's first neighborhood wine & cheese reception. This is an amazing neighborhood with strong bonds among the residents. We had the chance to talk about a wide range of issues of concern to Del Mar, and enjoy the good company and wine. I greatly appreciate everyone who chose to spend part of their evening with me

Big thanks also to these hosts: the Havilands, Rimini Rd, Sept. 23; the Schuckits, Kalamath Dr, Sept. 28; the Halenzas, 15th at Crest, Oct. 5, and Candace Kohl (Pat JaCoby, co-host,) Torrey Pines Terr., Oct. 7. These events reminded me that our town is full of engaged, thoughtful citizens who give back to our community in so many ways! ~Dwight
